Lunch on the Terrace is at its best in the warmer months. In autumn and winter we'd suggest Sunday lunch or afternoon tea instead, and our team will confirm what's available for your dates.

Prices are per booking for two guests and start from our Cosy Doubles. Our larger rooms and suites, from Biggy Riverside Doubles to the Clocktower Suites, are available for a little extra. The final price also depends on your dining choice and the length of your stay.

You can cancel free of charge up to 7 days before arrival, by 1pm. We take a card to guarantee your booking and payment is taken on arrival. Bookings made within 7 days of arrival can't be cancelled free of charge, and please book at least three days ahead.

The Reset and The Signature, with paddleboarding, boating, wild swimming, yoga and sports massage, are available at our sister Clubhouse, The Swan at Streatley.

The Great House is on Thames Street in the historic village of Sonning-on-Thames, West Berkshire, RG4 6UT. Reading station is about a 15 minute taxi ride away. By car, we're approximately 5 miles from Junction 10 of the M4, with free on-site parking available.

The Great House sits just under an hour from London Paddington, making it one of the most accessible countryside escapes in the south of England. The combination of a riverside setting, good food, wellness facilities, and easy access to the Thames Path means it works as a genuine reset rather than just a night away. Yes. The Great House in Sonning is an excellent base for walking the Thames Path, with the route passing directly through the village. Step out of the hotel and join one of the most scenic stretches of the River Thames, taking in riverside meadows, lock-side pubs and beautiful Berkshire countryside. Popular walks include Sonning to Reading, Sonning to Henley-on-Thames, or a shorter circular walk via Shiplake and Sonning Eye. After a day on the river, return to The Great House for drinks on the terrace, dinner overlooking the water, or an overnight stay in one of our contemporary bedrooms.

Yes. The Great House welcomes well-behaved dogs in a selection of its bedrooms, and the surrounding area is outstanding for dog walking — with the Thames Path on the doorstep. Some areas of the hotel and restaurant may have restrictions, so it's worth confirming specifics when booking. Dogs staying in dog-friendly rooms are made to feel as welcome as their owners.
